Project value - £10-£15 000
The brief for the small holiday cottage garden was simple, a sustainable, biodiverse garden which can be enjoyed by the guests staying at the cottage. Designed by Jonathan and built by the team the garden includes a south facing terrace surrounded by immersive planting, a lawn for families to enjoy and native trees and a mini wild flower meadow. Every opportunity was taken during this project to enhance its environmental credentials including a cement and plastic free construction. The paving was constructed from a paver made from Cemfree (a cement replacement with 85% less embodied carbon) and laid on a recycled base. All the soil was kept on site and piled up to make sloped borders, this reduced the environmental cost of transporting the excess soil away and created potential bee nesting sites within the borders. The garden features a small wildflower meadow containing native wildflowers, a small pond within a reclaimed galvanised bath and native crab apple trees.
