Project value – £40-£50 000
Build Time – 12 weeks
The Kitchen Garden was built as part of a larger landscaping project around an old farmhouse. We worked with the designer to convert an unused tarmac parking area which flooded in heavy rain to this beautiful walled kitchen garden accompanied by a traditional greenhouse built by Victorian greenhouses. Built over 2 tiers this space was made usable with the construction of brick edged vegetable beds. These beds were raised to the edges of the garden to soften the height of the perimeter walls and at ground level towards the centre of the space. The brickwork was carried out with handmade bricks to match the period property and a lime mortar was used for the authentic finish.
To separate the productive space from the other areas of the garden and keep rabbits out a wall with a curved hardwood entrance gate was installed, where areas of hardstanding were needed areas of brick weave were laid to compliment the gravel paths. Designed into the space were areas for relaxing and enjoying the productive kitchen garden.
